The Great Southern Herald, a newspaper produced and printed in Katanning, covered local events, news, meetings; in fact anything relating to Katanning and surrounding districts. In it’s 29 July 1933 edition it printed a report of the Annual General Meeting of the Nyabing Agricultural Society as follows:

NYABING NOTES
AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The annual general meeting of the Nyabing Agricultural Society was held in the Nyabing Hall on the 16th July 1933, there being a very fair attendance.

The financial statement was adopted. This revealed a debit at the end of May 1933, of approximately £70. The auditor’s report was also read and accepted, the auditor to be thanked for his full and clear statement of the position of the society. The chairman, Mr. J. Deacon, gave a resume of the past year’s transactions of the society and requested that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the ladies for the very able manner in which they had assisted during the year in many ways.

Election of officers for the ensuing year then proceeded, resulting as follows:
Mr. J. Deacon, being again elected president, suitably thanked those present for the confidence expressed in him. Mr. K. M. Jury was again elected secretary, and as Mr. C. M. Mitchell had tendered his resignation as treasurer, he was accorded a hearty vole of thanks and appreciation of his work for the society.

It was resolved that a new office be created, to be known as that of assistant secretary and treasurer. Messrs. D. R. Moore and C. R. Mitchell were nominated, subject to acceptance, and the voting resulted in the appointment of Mr. C. R. Mitchell to this office. Mr. D. R. Moore was elected as auditor for the ensuing year. (Retiring auditor, C. R. Mitchell).

The committee now comprises Messrs. J. D. Collins, J. Firth, E. A. Batt, W. J. Hicks, Ed. F. Goodchild, T. Deacon, E. Quartermaine, Reuben Quartermaine, W. H. Campbell, W. H. Kingston, W.F. King, H. P. Cronin and C. Wisbey
Patrons: A. E. Piesse, Esq., M.L.A., and Messrs. A. Thomson, H. V. Piesse and C. H. Wittenoom, M’s.L.C.
Vice-Presidents: Messrs. J. C. Warren, J.P., O. A. Caldwell, J. Shields, C. Wisbey, J. D. Collins, E. D. C. Warren, with additional vice-presidents: Messrs Ed. F. Goodchild, Geo. Hobley, P. H. Johnston, A. J. Blundy, W. J. Hicks, E. A. Batt, H. O. Trenorden, John Nagel and R. Newbey.

It was resolved to elect a Finance Committee this year to deal with all matters pertaining to the financial operations of the society. Owing to the difficulty experienced in obtaining the necessary receipts for payments, it was resolved to arrange for endorsement of cheques to provide the necessary discharge for payment made thereby. The Finance Committee is to go closely into the position of the society with a view to recommending means of bringing the Show up to a profitable standard by increasing public support.

The secretary was asked to approach various stock firms for trophies in various sections. Trophies were promised by Messrs. A. E. Reeves, W. J. Hicks and J. Deacon. Messrs. Richardson and Co. Ltd. to be approached for trophies in the flowers and dairy produce sections, and Fowlers Preserves Co. in the cookery section, and all trophies to be advertised in the schedule. Messrs. J. Cronin and E. A. Batt promised donations of five bags of wheat each.

Official Opening of Show.
It was decided to revert to the official opening ceremony. The secretary to write to Kobeelya School Committee, and also Broomehill Flower Show secretary, giving the date of this year’s show, 21st October next, asking if they can conveniently select a date other than Nyabing Show day to prevent clashing of these functions.

Every effort will be made to ensure the success of the 1933 show from all viewpoints, and the public arc asked to give their support to their own show by exhibiting in all sections and doing their utmost to create interest in the show whenever they get an opportunity to do so.
