FLOWER Roy Jessie

Flower Roy Jessie. Flower Roy Jessie.

We moved to Nyabing on the 1st march 1965 after working at the Newdegate Research Farm for quite a few years. We had heard the Larter Brothers of Nyabing wanted a farm assistant, so we moved into the little old house and stayed there until Arnold and Fred moved to Katanning. We then moved into Fred’s house.

Roy was an all-round farm worker and Jessie did odd jobs, cooking for shearers and cleaning out the shearers quarters. Jessie also worked in the local shop on certain days which was owned by ‘Bulla’ Stephens at the time.

Roy was a member of the Nyabing St John Ambulance Sub-Centre and held the position of president for two years. When the Girl Guides were formed in 1966, Jessie became a leader, holding the position of Lieutenant until December 1968.

Our children went to the Nyabing Primary School until they were ready for High School, and then they went to Albany.

When Larter’s sold the farm in 1974, we helped with the clearing sale and then moved to Katanning where Roy got a job with P.L. Bolto & Son.
