The Nyabing Agricultural Society held its first annual show on Thursday, November 2, at Nyabing, the racecourse being utilised for the purpose, and the initial venture proved very successful.
The special train chartered to bring Katanning visitors to the show was well patronised, siding en route adding its quota until it was severely taxed accommodation. In addition to arrivals by train, numerous visitors travelled by road, and the attendance was most satisfactory.
Prior to lunch, the president, of the society (Mr. Carlton Wisbey), in calling upon Mr. A. Thomson, M.L.A., to declare the show open, touched, upon the difficulties that beset an agricultural society in the making and expressed the gratitude of himself and the committee for the generous assistance they had received from all sections of the public, and particularly the ladies who had organised the arrangements for refreshments.
Mr. A Thomson in performing the ceremony, stressed the benefits derived from agricultural shows and appealed to the people to continue in their endeavours to make each annual event more representative than the last.
The Agricultural Hall was utilised for the display of cookery, needlework, flowers, and farm and dairy produce, etc. The samples of this season’s hay were very good, whilst there was a most satisfactory display of dairy produce, the butter exhibits being numerous and excellent.
