Dad, Sam Dye, originally came to Nyabing from Katanning in 1964 and Mum, Astrea Smith, came to Nyabing as a baby in 1948. Her father, Reginald Howard-Smith, had obtained the position of Secretary of the Nyabing – Pingrup Road Board. When Sam came to Nyabing he worked at the local store which was, at that time, owned by OL & EA Stephens before commencing work at the Nyabing Pastoral Company.
Mum grew up in Nyabing attending school here before commencing work at the Post Office, which incorporated the telephone exchange and then worked at the local store known as Gannaway’s Nyabing.
My parents currently live in Serpentine after their return from Port Lincoln, South Australia, five years ago.

BOYD, Lionel & Veronica (nee Dye)
I, Veronica, was born at the Katanning District Hospital on the 25 September 1975. My older sister Michelle and older brother Mark (Worby) were also born at the KDH in February 1970 and October 1971 respectively. Our parents are Sam & Astrea Dye (nee Smith).
I attended Kindergarten at the CWA building that is now home to the Nyabing Playgroup and is a meeting place for various community groups, and is also utilised by the Nyabing News. I then attended Nyabing Primary School and then on to Katanning Senior High School by bus which we used to catch at the Chinocup turn off halfway to Pingrup. I finished high school at the end of year 11 and continued my education at TAFE in Fremantle before returning to Nyabing.
I worked various jobs before beginning work at the local store, Gannaway’s Nyabing, working for three different owners of the business over a period of years. They were Gannaway’s, Geoff and Glenda Germain and Rick and Kath Campbell where I continued to work until we commenced our family.
I married Lionel (Igor) Boyd on the 5 April 1997 at the Burswood Resort Casino, Perth. The arrival of our first daughter, Kalei was in February 2005 followed by the arrival of our second daughter, Ashtyn in July 2007. Kalei is currently attending Nyabing Primary School as will Ashtyn when she commences kindergarten in 2012.
We purchased the house we currently live in on Cronin Street, from the Shire of Kent in 1996 during which time Lionel had farming jobs working for Graeme (Buck) Badger, Maurice Collins and Don Ball – Ball Farming – until taking up his current employment with Charlie Borlini as a truckdriver.
I am currently working for the Shire of Kent as the pavilion cleaner. I also volunteer my time as the Editor of the Nyabing News, assist with Fitness, play golf and the Historical Society, while also, most importantly, being a mum.
Michelle is living in Narrogin where she moved to from Nyabing in 2005 with her two sons Brandon 18 yrs and Seann 15 yrs. Mark is married to Janet (nee Campbell) and they have two daughters Stephanie 18 yrs and Dannielle 16yrs and they are currently still in Nyabing.
