GERMAIN FAMILY

Germain Family

1970 –

After completing his trade as a fitter and turner, Geoff Germain and his parents Gerry and Gret moved from Perth to Nyabing in February 1970. They bought a farm on Kuringup Road from Jack Taylor which is now owned by Mick Jury. Gret and Gerry had previously farmed at North Bandee where, along with Perth, Geoff had spent his childhood growing up.

Glenda moved from Perth to the farm in 1970 after marrying Geoff. Geoff and Glenda then took on the farm. In 1974 Geoff and Glenda had their first child, Richelle.

In 1995 Geoff and Glenda sold the farm and built their current house on five acres closer to town on Kuringup Road. They started up a new business in town, this being Nyabing Rural Services (CRT) and they also owned local school buses. Glenda has worked as school gardener at Nyabing Primary School for 24 years. She currently has the local mail run also.

After selling Nyabing Rural Services, Geoff worked for a few farmers around Nyabing, and the Germain’s and Warrens had the General Store for a couple of years. In 2003, sadly, Geoff was killed in a truck accident. Glenda is still living and working in Nyabing.

The Germain family has been heavily involved in the Nyabing Netball Club, with both Glenda and Richelle receiving their life memberships for the club. Geoff was involved with the Pistol Club, and is fondly remembered for always having his video camera on hand to record the antics of locals.
