Lenkeit Family 1992
We moved from Borden in 1989 to commence a farm manager’s position at JR Davies & Co. (Ross and Sally Davies). During our time there Gerard taught Joe the basics of farming. Seeding was done the old fashioned way, with bagged seed and super.
Looking back this was very hard work. Harvest was then done with a Massey Ferguson 587 PTO Header. The Katanning-Pingrup pipeline was constructed by volunteers starting in 1989.
Gerard left Davies at the end of 1990 and started work for G C N & H K Smith (Grantley and Heather). Gerard in now managing the cropping and doing various farm duties. A stockman, Chris Freeman, is employed to look after the stock. I have worked for many shearing contractors and farmers as a roustabout and have been a casual labourer and I was employed at the Pingrup Primary School for six years.

I played golf at the Nyabing Golf Club. I also enjoyed playing hockey for Nyabing Women’s Hockey Club, and especially loved the years when Julie-Anne played. It was great to go out on Saturday to play sport and socialise. These days were very special looking back now.
Gerard became a member of the Kent Districts Pistol Club in 1990 and is currently a member of the Kent District SSAA. He also volunteers for the Nyabing Fire Brigade. Gerard and I have two children, Julie-Anne and Donna.
Julie-Anne started year one when we moved to Nyabing. She went to the Nyabing Primary School for seven years, and completed her education to year 12 at Katanning Senior High School. She received the Lions Citizenship Award in Katanning in 2000.

She has many wonderful memories of Brownies and Girl Guides. Julie-Anne was also involved in the Nyabing Junior Red Cross. She played junior netball and played hockey for the NWHC.
She is currently continuing her career as a bookkeeper and married Bradley Grout from Cuballing in 2008. They now reside in Narrogin. Their son Thomas was born on 5th January 2010, and daughter Emma was born on the 14th March 2012.
Donna Lenkeit in 2012
Donna went to Nyabing Primary School for seven years. She then caught the school bus to Katanning Senior High School to finish her year 12 education. She lives in Warnbro and is presently working as a Cake Decorator for Donut King. Donna loved going to Brownies and Girl Guides, and she also played junior netball on Saturdays.
Donna was presented a book from the (then) Shire President, Barbara Morrell in 1997, for designing the Shire of Kent Logo. The co-designer was Cassandra Cheetham. The logo is still the same today. It is on the private Kent Shire number plates and location signs within the Shire.

Emma Grout arrived just in time for the Centenary Book! March 2012
We have brought an old War Service home in 1997 from DG & NA Stoney. The address is 36 George Street in Nyabing and we still own this residence today. Gerard and I love the district and have many special memories of our girls growing up in Nyabing. We love being grandparents and love Thomas (and now Emma) coming to stay with us. We always look forward to new grandchildren!
I have a very special memory of the lovely Desert Sturt Peas that Mr Wally Ramm grew. They were a spectacular show of red. We have many great memories over the past 21 years and we hope to have many more.
